One topic that I am finding more and more interesting is the business side of software development. Outside of reading business books, Eric Sink is one of the best writers on the topic there is.
His latest is a beauty: The Game is afoot.
Background: software developers, however smart they might be, are not always the best business people. Eric is trying to help them (me) out. How? By explaining some of the basics of business by using games for analogies.

Software development as a business has been relegated to the same level as the dot-com business model. It is nothing more than a legalized confidence game.
This is why honest developers espouse open source projects.
I agree and disagree with that statement. I think there are a number of projects that make sence in an open source model, and others that do not.
Either way, I still think there is a place for new software projects and companies.
Randy was recommending a really good book on the subject of the business side of software development. The pragmatic programmer also has good coverage on that.
